Thanks to citizens’ participation and awareness, New York State, where I live, has enjoyed a 5-year moratorium on the barbaric, and incredibly destructive to all life, practice of #fracking. However, it is now up for review in Albany!
“Don’t Frack with New York!” Tell Gov. Cuomo: Ban Fracking Now!
Campaign cash is flooding the halls of the Capitol. Since 2007, pro-fracking companies and organizations have donated more than $14 million to state and legislative candidates.
That cash isn’t going unnoticed at the Capitol, but neither is your voice. Last week’s 5th anniversary of New York’s moratorium on #hydrofracking proves that people-power can beat back the influence of campaign cash.

Anti-Fracking Rally at Cuomo’s State of the State
Albany, NY, USA

EARTH with fracking:
Extreme water pollution and flammability is connected to fracking in various states. One of the disastrous examples is New York’s neighbor, Pennsylvania, which allows fracking freely. And this is just one of the adverse effects! Among others is drastic increase in seismic activity, with quakes and tremors registering as often as several times a day in states like Texas! What is next?

We have fracking in NE Ohio and it is now moving closer to me. There has been an increase in eathquakes in the last few years. No one know what it will do to the ground water over time. Hate the TV ads where they show a farmer who has sold part of his land so fracking can take place, with cattle grazing nearby. We are fighting it in SW Ohio. Hard with a Republican governor.

Sorry to hear you have problems with fracking in Ohio, Patricia! There are huge problems and outcry in the neighboring Pennsylvania, where they allow fracking freely. And I hear Texas is suffering from the increased seismic activity, when they experience quakes and tremors several times a day.
We are lucky in NY that the population at large is very environmentally aware and actively opposed, but they still won’t ban it permanently, although it would be logical. Money talks – and Cuomo, btw, is also a republican as far as I know.
That said, my prediction is that there will be NO fracking in NY because citizens won’t allow it. Probably the moratorium will continue being extended indefinitely, until the right person is elected, who’ll ban it outright.

I just read a book Brindle 24 by JJ Brown. It’s all about one day in the life of, or should I say death, of a town due to fracking. Boo!!!

Oh, that’s terrible! Thank you for pointing out this useful book, Sherry!
There are also good documentaries that demonstrate very well what happens to those caught in the fracking ordeal. Sadly, people first sell out to these companies – some because they’ve been duped, others, because they simply don’t care about the environment, but just want to “get rich quick.” But all collect their money and sign non-disclosure agreements, after which they continue living on dead land, when it’s too late to turn back the clock.
Human greed and ignorance are two of the saddest and costliest things in existence.
Let’s spread awareness!

I agree with you. I just don’t understand why we are not moving on to a better energy alternative. Amazing that Putin is ahead of us. Guess that’s speaks volumes about the US.
Lada Ray said:
We are not moving to better energy alternatives because of the same corporate greed – oil and gas companies won’t allow it.
Also, alternative energy is so far not efficient. So it requires consistent investments and staunch support from the state, which currently is a money-losing proposition. Presently, countries like Germany, Russia and China have STATE SPONSORED alternative energy programs.
As to the US: if someone has dollar signs instead of a brain, and if someone doesn’t care about our common future, to them it’s illogical to do something that would lose money, although not everything in the world can be measured and bought with money, for example: health, good future, clean environment… but they wouldn’t understand what this means if their lives depended on it.
Also, the words “systemic corruption” come to mind. We should ask ourselves, how many US congressmen and senators get contributions and camouflaged bribes from oil and gas companies?
